I chose this video because I think it represents how people in The Crucible act. They are brainwashed and pressured through fear to hang people and accuse them of witchful acts. Diane explains how people of Jonestowns killed themselves and kids because they thought it would save the world, much like the people of Salem. They hanged innocent men, women, and children who may have just had food poisoning from ergot, a ingredient in rye. She also explains how she understands why it would only be right to try to save the world through genocide and that is how Salem people thought of it. If they killed off all the witches then the world would be saved of the devil. She also talks about how there is a virus called a Viral Memetic Infection and it spreads from peoples brain to others. It can also affect people who have a weak immune system which is mostly young people. The main people who accused people of being witches were female teenagers and they may have done this at first to cause arouse and excitement but then others started to do it because of fear and pressure. Diane also explains how the brain works under this virus and everyone just believes if they follow god and his ways then everything in the world will work out. In the text Reverend Parris always claims how if you go to church you will be more holy and have a better chance against the devil. Basically if you follow the church then you will be alright. The dangers of doing this as Diane puts it are,"it creates us and them, right and wrong, good and evil". That separated the "witches" and the accusers or the good and the evil. This book shows a lot of brain wash and shows how the pressures of society can cause terrible things. Never let anybody scare you into doing something just to follow society. If the church would've talked about god more instead of always mentioning hell and its consequences many people would have confidence and not be scared of these supposed "witches". This video represents a lot of what has happened in Act One of The Crucible and it can explain many strange things that appear in the text.
