I chose this ted talk because it gives us an insight on what Perry or Dick's mind might have been like. Fallon is a neuroscientist and a professor at the University of California. For 35 years he studied behavior but recently he has shown an interest in psychopathic behavior. His research will help us understand what Perry or Dick might have been thinking before the murder. Fallon tells how it all matters about the timing of genes, brain damage and, environment. Based on when those things occur you can have different types of killers. He also explains how all killers have a damaged orbital cortex which is right above the eyes. This is a pattern that every killer had so I am sure Dick and Perry had this too. There is also this gene called the MAOA gene and boys can only receive it from their mother The lower MAOA you have the higher chance of antisocial behavior you have. Neither Perry nor Dick had many friends so they probably had low MAOA. Also both are boys so they have higher chance of having a low amount of the gene. To express this gene violently you need to have some type of traumatic event happen to you before puberty. the book did not really talk about Dick's past but it did talk about Perry's. He watched his mother and father divorce and his siblings leave to different homes. He would never stay at the same school and he lived in a vehicle. His childhood was pretty rough so this might have had an effect on why he killed the clutters. Both have also been to prison so the violence in there probably also had an effect on the way they perceived killings and such. Maybe one or both of them had an ancestor who was a serial killer or was very violent. Fallon explained how if someone in your family tree was a very violent person then that trait can be passed down to you. Out of Dick and Perry, Perry would be probably be the one with a violent person in his past because I think he tries to be normal but that trait can not be controlled because it has been genetically passed down to him. This Ted Talk really helped me understand what contributed to the violent side of both Dick and Perry. It was also very easy to relate things too.
