I believe that this video explains a lot of whats happening in The Great Gatsby. It gives a look into what these characters are thinking throughout the book. Helen Fisher said you can feel romantic love for one person and lust for another and attachment for another. In the book Daisy feels attachment for Tom, romantic love for Gatsby, and lust for both. Those feelings are the main reason why people tend to cheat on each other, because they're emotions get the best of them. I think the mixture of romantic love and lust will always overpower attachment and lust. Helen also said that the divorce rates decrease as couples grow older. Daisy and Tom have had a quite long relationship so they have a better chance of staying together. Daisy and Gatsby have had a break for five years so they have less of a chance to get together. Fisher asked many people if they would die for their loved ones and they said yes as if she asked them to pass the salt. It seemed as if it was a very easy answer but if the situation truly came down to it, they probably wouldn't step in front of the bullet. In the text Gatsby was willing to sacrifice everything he had for Daisy and go to jail for her. In fact, he actually died for her in the end. Gatsby was so in love with Daisy he would've done anything for her. The sad part is Daisy would've never taken the fall for Gatsby.

Fisher also mentioned her worry of anti-depressants in the video. nobody in the book took but anti-depressants but they always drank alcohol and smoked. After Gatsby and Nick got home from their trip to the city they searched Gatsby's entire house for just two cigarettes. If smoking means that much to you then maybe that's a sign telling you to stop. Also everybody drank a lot of alcohol throughout the book Nick got drunk for his 2nd time at Gatsby's. People drank no matter what the situation was: happy, sad, disappointed, or even excited. in other words drinking was a very common activity of this book. There were many relations between this speech and the book, The Great Gatsby and that is why i chose this Ted Talk.
